- National Navigation Award Scheme
The National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) was launched at the Royal Institute of Navigation in 1994. The Scheme operates in the United Kingdom and is a personal performance, non-competitive series of map reading and navigation awards for use by recreational hill-walkers, youth organisations and their adult supervisors.
The scheme operates both an adult and junior series of awards. The junior awards are known as the Junior Navigation Star Awards and have three levels of qualification: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The adult National Navigation Award also has three levels, again titled Bronze, Silver and Gold. This quaulification is linked to various other mountaineering qualification such as the Mountain Leader Training Board's Mountain Leader Award (Summer) certificate.
