Reel North is the award-winning short film showcase, produced at the
University of Salford ,England , and currently broadcasting on Channel M (Sky 203).Overview
Reel North champions the very best in emerging cinematic talent, screening quality short films from Manchester, the UK and around the world. It is also an invaluable tool for educating new production talent: the presenters and crew are students at the School of Media, Music and Performance at the University of Salford, Greater Manchester.
The programme is available to almost a million viewers across the city of Manchester via local terrestrial & cable networks and, from April 2006, up to nine million viewers nationally across the UK via SKY satellite (channel 203). In addition to showcasing short films, Reel North also features contributions from acclaimed international directors - such as Alex Cox, Mike Leigh and Guy Maddin - who have all donated exclusive interviews or examples of their early work.
Working in close collaboration with key local film organisations - such as North West Vision, the Northern Film Network, Filmonik and Cornerhouse - as well as reporting on some of Manchester's most important film festivals, (Commonwealth, Kino, Salford and Exposures), the programme provides a significant contribution to the fabric of Manchester's film scene.

In both 2004 and 2005, the Reel North production teams were nominated for
Royal Television Society (north-west) awards, achieving joint-1st place in 2005. The programme went one step further in 2006 by winning outright the award for Best Regional Programme.External links
