Glenbard North High School, or GBN, and locally referred to as "North," is a public four-year high school located at the corner of Kuhn Road and Lies Road in Carol Stream, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Glenbard Township High School District 87, which also includes Glenbard South High School, Glenbard East High School, and Glenbard West High School. The North campus is the largest among the four high schools in Glenbard Township District 87, currently serving approximately 2,827 students many who reside in Carol Stream as well as portions of Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, and Bloomingdale

The use of "GBN" as a reference for the school is not unique to Glenbard North. Many residents in the Chicago area, particularly following athletics, often need to differentiate between Glenbard North and the unrelated school Glenbrook North, which is located in the north suburbs and also commonly uses the shortened form "GBN".

History

Glenbard North opened its doors in August 1968, and was the third of what would eventually become a four school district. The first principal of Glenbard North was Raymond Livingston. Burt Weber served Glenbard North as principal from 1971-1989, having the longest tenure of any Glenbard North principal (through 2007). The football field at the school, Weber Field, was named in his honor.

Academics

In 2005, Glenbard North had an average composite ACT score of 21.3, and graduated 93.4% of its senior class. Glenbard North has not made Adequate Yearly Progress on the Prairie State Achievements Examination, a state test part of the No Child Left Behind Act. [ [http://www.glenbard.dupage.k12.il.us/Glenbard_DistrictHQ/2005/media/pdf/Report%20Cards/Current%20Year/Glenbard_North_Report_Card.pdf Illinois School Report Card] ]

The staff is 178 teachers, of which 88% hold an advanced degree. [ [http://www.glenbard.dupage.k12.il.us/Glenbard_DistrictHQ/2005/media/pdf/Profiles/North.pdf Glenbard North Profile] ] The average class size is 26.

Theatre

The Glenbard North Theatre Department's season consists of three major events (called: "mainstages") and one studio play each year. These are performed in the school's Little Theatre. The department also performs a musical every other year in the Livingston Auditorium.

Athletics

Glenbard North teams are called the Panthers. These athletic teams compete in the DuPage Valley Conference. The school's teams also compete in state championship tournaments sponsored by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA).

The school sponsors interscholastic sports for men and women in basketball, cross country, gymnastics, soccer, tennis, track & field, and volleyball. Men may also compete in baseball, football, golf, and wrestling. Women may compete in badminton, cheerleading, and softball. While not sponsored by the IHSA, the school also sponsors a pom team for women [ [http://www.glenbardnorthhs.org/sitepages/athletics/athletics Glenbard North HS, list of interscholastic athletic teams; accessed 5 September 2008] ]
