Robert McCall (figure skater)

Robert McCall (figure skater)

Rob McCall, C.M. (September 14, 1958 – November 15, 1991) was a Canadian figure skater. He competed in ice dance with Marie McNeil and later Tracy Wilson. He and Wilson won the bronze medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics. He died of AIDS on November 15, 1991 at age 33.

McCall was from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and lived and trained there. He moved to Toronto when he started to work with Tracy Wilson. He first competed in Skate Canada with Marie when he was 17 and although they did not do so well he was extremely proud to have competed with the likes of Toller Cranston.

In 1988, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada.

In 1999, Scott Hamilton outed him as gay in his autobiography. [cite book |last=Hamilton |first=Scott |authorlink=Scott Hamilton (figure skater) |coauthors=Lorenzo Benet |title=Landing It: My Life On And Off The Ice |year=1999 |publisher= |location= |isbn=1575664666 ]
