Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE; simplified Chinese: 中央财经大学; traditional Chinese: 中央財經大學; pinyin: zhōngyāng cáijīng dàxué), colloquially known in Chinese as Zhongcai (中财) or Yangcai (央财) and formerly as the Central Institute of Finance and Economics, is a university in Beijing, China. It is a Project 211 university which receives support from the Chinese central government.

History

The Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) was founded in 1949, shortly after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the first university of finance and economics created by the China central government. Originally named the Central Institute of Taxation, it was the first university of finance and economics created by the Chinese central government. In 1996, the Institute was given its current name.

CUFE has four campuses and operates 38 correspondence centers in 18 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across China. The university comprises more than 30 schools, departments and research centers and awards bachelor's degrees in 39 academic disciplines, master degrees in 42 disciplines, and 17 doctoral degrees. In addition, four special programs are offered: MBA, MPAcc, MPA, and J.M. Three post-research programs are offered in applied economics, theoretical economics, business administration.

School of Accountancy


The School of Accountancy was established in September 2003. It evolved from the Accounting Department which was established in 1952 and was the first advanced accountancy training offered after China’s liberation in 1949.

The School occupies a position in domestic accounting, auditing and finance and is a key subject in Beijing. It consists of four departments: Financial Accounting Department, Management Accounting Department, Audit Department, Financial Management Department; and two other centers: Accounting and Finance Research Center and MPAcc Education Center.

The School has the authority to grant bachelor, master and PhD degrees. It has bachelor’s degree programs in the specialties of Accounting, Finance Management and Registered Accountants, and master and PhD degree programs in Accounting. In the 1980s, the School of Accountancy took the lead in offering the course Specialized Foreign Financial Accounting. For the first time, a native English language textbook was used. In 1983, the Committee of Academic Degrees of the State Council authorized the School to grant master degrees and in 1988 PhD degrees. In 2002, the Beijing Committee of Education elevated it to be a key subject of Beijing for universities (What is “it” ???). In 2004, the Office of Academic Degrees of the State Council granted permission for the School participate in the trial of MPAcc courses.

During the past 50 years, the School of Accountancy has trained more than 20,000 graduates.

The School of Accountancy has a teaching staff with a mix of senior professors, associate professors and lecturers and young teaching staff.

The School is equipped with a laboratory and an independent specialist library. All administrative functions are computerized. All teachers have access to multi–media for teaching.

The School of Accountancy has accomplished much with national and provincial projects in the fields of Management Accounting, Enterprise Finance Accounting, Government and other Non-Profit Organization Accounting, Financial Management and Audit.

The School has developed academic exchange and cooperation with many universities and academic institutions in countries and regions such as America, Britain, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as with the four major multinational accounting firms. The School has also invited more than 20 distinguished foreign and Chinese experts as honored visiting and part-time professors.

School of Applied Mathematics


In August, 2003, Economic Math Department of Central University of Finance and Economics is established based on previous Math Teaching Department in response to the competition of international economy in 21 century and the demand for the complex qualified professionals with solid economic theory basic as well as the math theory base.
The department contains three teaching and research rooms, i.e. rooms of Calculous, Linear Equation, Probability and Mathematic statistics, two supporting constitutions, i.e. Department Office and Library, and one scientific research constitution, i.e. the Institute of Mathematical Economy.

In the long process of teaching and scientific research, the department fostered and established a faculty and staff team with levels of proficiency in teaching and scientific research. The department has 26 faculty members currently, among who there are 2 professors, 12 associate professors, 3 doctors, 1 expert receiving special subsidies of State Council and 4 Beijing young backbone teachers. Also, the department retains some researchers of Chinese Academy of Science as the visiting professors such as Academician Ma Zhiming.

The faculty members at this department have scored results in teaching and scientific research. The amount of students who get high scores in the math consolidated examination of all previous Entrance Examination of Postgraduates ranks the first among Beijing tertiary institution; The department got good achievements in previous math competitions of Beijing’s undergraduates. In the scientific research, the faculty members have published 400 high-quality academic papers in external or internal math and economic publications. Some of these papers have been extracted by American math comment. “Chinese Scientific Technological Library” has absorbed some as a whole. Several fruits of scientific research are also awarded province-recognized or ministry-recognized prizes.

The department provides the following courses for Economic Math program that is established newly, including: Math Analysis, Advanced Algebra, Probability and Mathematic Statistics, Function of Complex Variable, Function of Real Variable, Program Design, Western Economics, Math Model, Computation Economics, Financial Economics, Quantity Analysis of Financial Investment, Risk Administration, Economic Prediction and Decision-making, Analysis and Design of Information System and Great System Analysis, etc. Through studying these courses and participating relevant social practices, the students of this department with solid base of math and economic theory, higher foreign language level and the ability of computer application can engage in economic analysis, economic modeling and system design in economic and governmental departments of financial securities, investment, insurance and statistics, and become complex qualified professionals in the field of economic math.

School of Business


The Business School of Central University of Finance and Economics was established to meet the need for the development of higher education in finance and economics and to cultivate professional managers of quality and potential. Founded in August 2003, the Business School grew out of the economics and management department.

The school has three departments: Business Administration Department, Sales Administration Department, and Human Resource Department. There is also a management consultation center, an administration office, a faculty and research management office, a student affairs office, and an information center. The teacher employment system, which combines full-time and part-time employment, is a feature of the school. There are 42 full-time and part-time faculties members, including 4 PhD advisers. Professors account for 20% of faculty and associate professors account for another 20%. Of the full-time professors, 60% have a PhD and 35% have studied overseas. The faculty members are young and enthusiastic. They have a broad educational background, considerable academic achievements and rich working experience.

The school emphasizes teaching of the basic theory of economic management, focusing on combining practice and theory. In this way, the students not only possess a comprehensive professional knowledge, but also develop practical capabilities. The school provides 3 undergraduate majors: business administration, marketing, human resource; a master degree program in enterprise management, and a PhD program in transaction corporation management. The school also provides an MBA program. There are more than 500 undergraduates, postgraduates, and PhD students in the school. In addition to formal education, the school also hosts management training activities serving the business community.

The school actively engages in communication and cooperation with other countries.

Over the past three years, faculty members have had significant achievements in the field of management research. They have published almost 200 academic research papers in key periodicals as well as 60 monographs and textbooks. They have also undertaken and completed many research projects of provincial and ministry level or above. Moreover, they have completed many joint projects with enterprises.

School of Continuing Education


Founded in 1949, Central University of Finance and Economics was one of the first universities to offer adult education in China. In the early 1950s and 1960s, the university offered continuing education programs for officials and professionals. In 1982, adult education at the school entered a new era with the school mainly offering correspondence and evening education. In addition to the evening school on the main campus, CUFE set up correspondence stations in provinces, cities and autonomous regions including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, Anhui, Guangdong, Hainan, Yunnan, Shanxi, Ningxia, Fujian, Jiangxi and XinJiang. The school offers specialties in Finance, Banking, Accounting, Taxation, Investment, Insurance, Journalism, Marketing, International Trade, Economic Information Management. Altogether, 23448 students have graduated through correspondence and evening classes. The school has also run professional training classes for government officials and turned out 3363 graduates.

Currently, the School’ s adult education focuses on offering advanced education programs by correspondence, evening school and full-time adult classes. The programs are offered at three levels: a college diploma awarded to those who enter the School as high school graduates; bachelor degrees for those beginning their study either as high school graduates or college graduates. (I can only see 2???) There are 36 correspondence stations with more than 7000 students in 23 provinces, cities and autonomous regions. Potential candidates are mostly employed workers and unemployed young adults. Having completed all required courses and passed all examinations, the graduates receive a certificate issued and approved by the national education authorities.

In August 2003, the School of Adult Education changed its name to the School of Continuing Education. There are 21 faculty members in the School and over 200 staff located at the correspondence stations. The school has the following offices: the School Office (self education office), the Teaching Management Office, The School Enrolment Management Office, the Evening School Office, and the Training Office.

The School of Continuing Education is responsible for the adult education of the university.

School of Culture and Communication

School of Economics


The School of Economics was established in August 2003 to meet the requirements of the development of education in China. By 2004, the School has more doctorate and master programs than any other School or department within CUFE. It has mobile post doctoral program of economics, six doctoral programs, eight master programs and three graduate programs.

The School of Economics has five departments: National Economics, Economics, Statistics, Industrial Economics and International Economics. It has three academic research institutes: Economics Innovation and Development Study Center, Economic History Research Center, and Economic Statistics and Market Investigation Institute. Support functions are provided by four management offices: School Office, Office of Teaching and Academic Research Management, Office of Student Affairs and the Information Center.

The School has 38 full-time faculty members including 9 doctoral advisors, 11 professors and 15 associate professors.

At present, the School of Economics has 50 PhD candidates, 160 postgraduates and 350 undergraduates. The main courses for undergraduates are Western Economics, Political Economy,Developing Economics,Statistics, International Economics, National and International Economics Analysis, Economics and the History of Economics Thought, Economics Metrology,National Economics, Industrial Economics, Modern Business Statistics, Securities Statistical Analysis, Modern Statistical Software, Sample Theory and Method, etc.

In recent years, teachers of the school have published more than 500 articles in “China Social Science”, “ Economics Trend”, “ China Daily” and other journals. They have issued approximately 20 professional works, 60 textbooks and 4 book translations. They have also completed more than 10 academic projects of at least provincial level. These include a national social science fund project, a social science fund project of Education Ministry, a social science fund project of Beijing municipal city. In addition, they have cooperated with government organizations and enterprises on more than 10 research projects, 7 of which have won awards at provincial level or above.

The School of Economics has actively participated in the development of international academic exchange. It has invited experts from the U.S, Germany, Italy and other countries to give lectures.

School of Finance


Finance School of Central University of Finance and Economics established in August, 2003 evolved from Finance Department established in 1949. The school is one of important cultivation bases of qualified financial professional. As early as in 1953 and in 1956, Finance School developed the first postgraduate class and foreign student class of finance program one after the other. In 1960, it took the lead in developing the first undergraduate program of finance in China.

Since 1980, it increased International Finance, International Insurance, International Economy and Trade, and Financial Engineering, and more in response to the pressing demand of Chinese Reform and Open-up and the construction of modernization. The school has a strong, rational-structure and high-quality faculty and staff team. The school employed above 40 full-time faculty members, among them: there are 14 professors, 13 associate professors; 16 members have been granted doctoral degree; 12 members are doctor candidates; 2 members have received state subsidies; 2 members have been selected into “State Hundreds and Thousands of Talents Engineering”; 1 member has been awarded state-recognized teaching famous teacher prize of tertiary institution.

The school also employed several experts and scholars as visiting professors and supervisors for higher degrees. The school offers a variety of tertiary education programs (programs with bachelor, master, Ph.D. degrees or certificates) and a post-doctoral fellowship of Finance program under the first-class discipline of Applied Economy. The school offers undergraduate programs in Finance, International Economy and Trade (in 2004, it added “ International Trade/ Financial Risk Administration Orientation” of International Economy and Trade attached to Sino-Australian cooperative project) and Financial Engineering; The school provides master programs in the areas of Finance, International Economy and Trade, International Finance and Securities Investment; The school has Ph.D. programs in Finance and International Trade. Among them, financial discipline is a state-recognized key one. The school comprises above 800 undergraduates and 440 postgraduates of MA and Ph.D. (including the students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan). In addition, the school recruits above 100 on-the-job postgraduates every year.

While the school is promoting the reform of education and teaching, it organizes and carries out academic research and external exchange activities. Now, it has set up education and teaching exchange relationship with the related schools (departments) and scientific research institutes of external and internal, e.g. Taiwan I-Shou University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Tiburg University of Netherlands, University of Connecticut of America, Imperial College London, University of New South Wales of Australia, Victoria University of Technology of Australia, McGill University of Canada. In recently years, the faculty members have presided or participated state-recognized and province- recognized various scientific research projects, which has scored fruitful results.

Since 1996, the faculty members at this school have been awarded above province-recognized or ministry-recognized prizes for their teaching and research fruits, released above 800 papers on external or internal academic publications and conferences, and published various monographs, translation works, teaching materials reference book summing to 120. Quite a few of these fruits take an important effect in the academic and educational community and are of great value of decision-making and consultation.

School of Foreign Languages


The Department of Foreign Languages was established in 2002 with an objective to develop a university education of the twenty-first century and to cultivate specialists in the field of economics and financial translations. The department was sanctioned by the Ministry of Education, evolving from the former Foreign Languages Teaching department.

The faculty has more than 40 teachers including English, Japanese, Russian and French nationals. Among them, there are seven associate professors, many senior lecturers majoring in English, finance, accounting and law, foreign experts and visiting professors.

The department offers bachelor degrees to students majoring in Financial English. Graduates of the department have a mastery of the English language and a professional knowledge of finance and economics. They are fluent in the use of English in the fields of finance, banking, accounting, trade and insurance.

The graduates of Financial English develop comprehensive skills such as listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation. The department places great emphasis on the development of translation abilities, including oral interpretation and written translation. Due to the university’s core strength in finance and economics, teachers offer Financial English in both English and Chinese.

In order to prepare students for careers in multi-national environments, courses on aspects of foreign culture and customs are also provided. The department uses advanced multi-media equipment, has a broadcasting station and other modern teaching facilities.

The Financial English major offers the following programs: Basic English courses such as Basic English, Advanced English, Listening Comprehension, Oral English, Reading, Writing, Oral Translation and Written Translation; English major courses such as Linguistics, Lexicology, English Grammar, British and American Literature, British and American Culture, etc.; and Basic finance courses such as Western Economics, Advanced Mathematics, Computer, International Business Negotiation, Theories of Accounting, Insurance, International Trade, International Banking and International Economic Law.

Teachers are also engaged in many co-operative projects involving teaching and research exchange, both domestically and internationally. In recent years, members of the faculty have written and edited several books including Western Economics in English, which is one of the most important textbooks produced in this university. Extensive Reading of Financial English, Business English, and others are important textbooks listed by the Ministry of Education in the "Tenth Five-Year Plan". Faculty members have also published many academic papers in influential journals in China.

In addition, the department organizes students to take part in many activities such as the National English contest, the English speech contest and the “Foreign Language Publishing House Cup” debating contest, providing rich opportunities for students’ extra-curricula activities.

School of Government Administration

School of Information

The Information Administration Department of Central University of Finance and Economics was established in 1987 when it first recruited undergraduates. In 1992, the department began to recruit master students. The department’s objective is to cultivate high-quality professionals in information administration for the development of the national economy and society as a whole. There are three teaching and research rooms within the department: The Teaching and Research Rooms of Information Systems, Computer Base (Databases???) and Electronic Business. There are three laboratories: Workstation & Network Laboratory, Multimedia Laboratory and Electronic Business Laboratory. The other facilities include the Information Room and the Postgraduate Computer Room.

The department employs 23 faculty members and nine administrative staff. The faculty comprises four professors, eleven associate professors, five lecturers and three assistants. Nineteen faculty members have a master degree or above, accounting for 86% of the entire faculty. Three members have doctoral degrees. Seven young faculty members and twelve middle-aged faculty members account for 86% of the total. One professor receives state subsidies and one professor is a doctoral supervisor.
At present, the department provides three undergraduate programs in Information Administration and Information Systems, Electronic Business and Administration Science. The department offers three master programs in Industrial Economics, Mathematical Economics and Electronic Business. Three doctoral programs are also offered in the areas of Industrial Economics, Mathematical Economics and Administration of Economic Information.

In recent years, the situation of students’ source has been taking on the perfect development trend although the department’s recruitment score is always higher. There are more than 500 undergraduates and more than 100 master students currently enrolled. With the continuing expansion of recruitment in all tertiary colleges, the situation of graduates’ allocation is stable and the rate of employment is increasing. As a result, the university has recognized the department several times for its outstanding achievements and contribution. After graduation, students tend to find positions in state governmental departments, the finance industry, accounting firms, the IT industry, private enterprise, universities and research institutions.

The following courses are offered by the department: Program Design of C Language, Data Structure, Operating Systems, Operational Research, Principles and Application of Database, Computer Network, Administrative Information System, Econometrics, Software Development Instruments (Tools??), Program Design of C++, UNIX Operating Systems, Development Technology for Websites, Systems Analysis and Design Facing Objectives, Administration of Information Resources, Information Systems of Accounting, Introduction to Electronic Business, Information Systems Safety, Multimedia Technology, Administration of Logistics and Supply Chains.

Currently, the orientation of teaching and scientific research that faculty is engaging in involves the following ways: Information Management Methods and Technology, Modeling and Analysis of Information Systems, Electronic Business, Electronic Finance, Modern Logistics, IT Project Management, Macroeconomics and Industrial Economic Modeling, etc. The department has developed extensive cooperation with universities in America, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other countries and regions.

Many scientific research projects have been undertaken on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, State Taxation Administration and other ministries. Also, the department has been in charge of, or participated in editing numerous integrated teaching materials of Ministry of Education and other ministries. Faculty members have achieved demonstrable success in both teaching and research. Their efforts have been recognized through state-recognized, ministry-recognized and university-recognized prizes. Many scientific research projects and papers are published each year.

The department contributed to the success of the 1990 Asian Games held in China by undertaking the entire software test of computer administration information systems of the electronic engineering headquarters for volleyball, archery and cycling. The professors of this department have been appointed as technological principals of expert work team in the campus network construction of universities attached to Ministry of Finance, Their commendable work makes a great contribution to the development of the network of subordinate universities.

School of Insurance


Central University of Finance and Economics was the first university in China to offer higher-education in an insurance specialty. The Insurance Department was established in 1952 and from 1952 to 1969, exclusively offered an insurance specialty. Central University of Finance and Economics has cultivated approximately one thousand qualified professionals of insurance operations and management. These students have made a significant contribution to the university’s status in the development of China’s insurance sector as well as to the foundation and development of insurance as a career in New China.

The department has three professional teaching and research rooms: Insurance, Labor & Social Security and Actuarial Analysis. It also incorporates the Beijing Examination Center for the Institute of Actuaries of England, the Beijing Examination Center for Institute of British Royal Insurance and the Finance & Insurance Examination Center of Australia and New Zealand.

The department has adopted an academic research and education system focuses on the cultivation of doctor, master and bachelor degrees as the primary objective.

Currently, the department more than 100 full-time postgraduates enrolled in Insurance and Actuarial Analysis specialties and more than 450 full-time undergraduates and postgraduates in the Insurance and Labor & Social Security specialty. In 2004, the department began recruiting postgraduates to Insurance orientation under Finance specialty. This will lead to doctoral and master degrees in Labor & Social Security and bachelor degrees in Insurance and Actuarial Analysis.

The department has the largest faculty team in the university. There are nineteen full-time faculty members whose average age is 35. Among them, there are four professors and three associate professors accounting for 41% of the faculty and eleven lecturers accounting for 57% of the faculty. Four faculty members have been granted doctor degrees and another four are doctoral candidates, including 2 members studying abroad. This accounts for 42% of the entire faculty.

The department is an executive member of the Risk and Administration Association for the Asia and Pacific Rim and the Insurance Institute of China. The department produced a series of teaching materials on the Chinese insurance market for tertiary colleges in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Long-term academic cooperation has been established with academic organizations and colleges of insurance in America and Britain and other countries.

In recent years, the faculty members have published more than 600 papers, and 100 monographs and teaching materials. They have also conducted more than ten projects for state ministries, state-owned insurance corporations and Hong Kong insurance corporations. Furthermore, the faculty members were awarded more than 100 academic prizes including province & ministry-recognized awards. The department compiles the teaching material and formulates the questions for the Insurance examination of Self-Taught Higher Education courses.

The Insurance Department of Central University of Finance and Economics attaches the greatest importance to the cultivation of high quality graduates through strict professional training. The student union of this department has undertaken and organized five seminars entitled “The Competition of Insurance Knowledge for Capital undergraduates” This series of seminars began in 1999 and has become a popular event for students of insurance in capital??? tertiary colleges. The postgraduates of this department participate in international academic activities during their course. Three postgraduates were invited to international academic conferences to present their papers at the 7th (2003) and 8th (2004) Annual Conferences of Insurance and Risk Administration for Asian and Pacific Region. These were held in Thailand and Korea, respectively.

Five students of this department were also awarded first, second and third prizes in the 1st Comment and Selection of Students’ Insurance Paper for Tertiary College, held by Ping An Insurance Group of China. This was the highest number of prize winners ever recorded by this department. From September 2003 to July 2004, students of this department published more than 100 papers and participated in ten projects. This department has won more student prizes than all other schools and departments in this university.

By virtue of social influence and extensive professional relations, the Insurance Department of Central University of Finance and Economics strives for scholarship and stipend from internal and external enterprises and institutions. In recent years, almost 50% of students received scholarships and stipends of ranging from 1000 RMB to 10000 RMB per annum.

School of International Cultural Exchange

School of Law


Established in 1995, the School of Law was focused on the admission of students countrywide. It comprises branch institutions such as the Teaching and Research Section for Groundwork Laws???, the Teaching and Research Section for Economic Law, the Teaching and Research Section for Civil and Commercial Law, the Teaching and Research Section for International Law, the Institute for Fiscal, Tax, and Financial Laws, and the Editorial Board for the Economic and Commercial Law Review. It comprises administrative organs such as a general office, a reference room, a teaching and research administration office, a students’ work office, etc.

The School of Law has 33 faculty and staff members of which 15 are full professors and associate professors, 11 are lecturers, 12 are doctoral degree holders, and 5 are doctoral candidates. Based on the disciplinary standards of the Central University of Finance and Economics, the School of Law is dedicated to the combined teaching and research of law and economics. Particular attention is paid to cultivating talent that is well-versed in law as well as economics and focused on the requirements of business entities (in particular, financial and insurance enterprises), professional legal institutions, state organizations (in particular, fiscal, taxation, and auditing institutions), as well as the judiciary.

The School of Law has an undergraduate law major and 2 majors for postgraduate study: Economic Law and Civil & Commercial Law. There are now more than 500 students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The undergraduate courses are not limited to the core courses as uniformly prescribed by the Ministry of Education. They also highlight economics courses that feature the unique advantages of the Central University of Finance and Economics.

The major courses of law include Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Administrative Litigation, Principles of Civil and Commercial Law, Principles of Economic Law, Criminal Law, Civil Litigation, Criminal Litigation, Company Law, Contract Law, Intellectual Property, Maritime Law, Negotiable Instruments Law, Securities Law, Financial Law, Tax Law, Market Regulation Law, International Law, International Private Law, International Business Law, Arbitration Law, Theory and Practice of the Legal Profession, etc. The major courses of economics include Western Economics, Accounting, Monetary Banking, Enterprise Management, Asset Appraisal, Trust and Lease, etc.

The faculty members have admirable achievements in academic research. In the past three years, they have completed more than 300 articles, almost 200 of which were published in key state journals. School of Law has undertaken 6 academic projects at the province or ministry level and published a number of monographs, textbooks and translations.

Since 2002, the Law School has held the China Forum of Law and Economics, an annual, national symposium. The resulting law publication is also compiled and edited by the School under the title Economic and Commercial Law Review, published by Law Press.

The School of Law has established teaching, academic and research exchange with universities and institutions in many countries and regions including the United States, Germany, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc.

School of Public Finance

School of Public Finance and Administration of Central University of Finance and Economics was established to meet the need for the development of higher education in finance and economics and cultivation of senior government civil servants. The School was founded in September 2003, evolving from the former Public Finance Department and the Taxation Department.

The school has two teaching departments: Public Finance Department and Taxation Department; two research institutes: Public Finance and Taxation Research Institute, and the Chinese Public Finance History Institute. The school has faculty support organizations such as the college office, the faculty and research management office, the student work office and the information center.

The mission of the school is to cultivate students with comprehensive skills and abilities in the field of public finance, taxation and public administration. The school offers 4 bachelor degree majors: public finance, taxation, public administration, and public service management; 2 master programs: public finance and public administration; and one doctor program in public finance. The public finance major includes finance and taxation and is treated as a city-level key subject in Beijing. There are more than 840 undergraduates, postgraduates and PhD students currently enrolled.

The faculty members have completed a significant amount of research on the theories of finance and economics and on the study of public policy. The school has developed broad international academic exchanges with faculty and research institutes in many countries and regions such as America, Canada, Japan, Russia, Ukraine and Taiwan. In the last 3 years, the faculty members of the school have published more than 880 academic research papers, 39 of which received awards at state and provincial levels. They have also completed many research projects, some of which were sponsored by the National Research Fund in Social Sciences. More than 80 academic theses have been published in first class national periodicals. Several dozen academic monographs, translations of academic works and state level textbooks have also been published. These have had a significant influence within the academic and education communities.

The School is authorized to train civil servants in domestic finance and taxation theory research.

Students are trained on the basis of “wide-ranging knowledge and solid basic knowledge”. In recent years, the graduate employment rate and social evaluation has ranked as number one within this discipline across all universities nationally.

School of Social Development


The Sociology Department of Central University of Finance and Economics was established in August 2003. Evolving from the Teaching Department of Political Theory, it responded to the development of higher education in the new century and the demand for professional talent.

The Sociology Department comprises five teaching and research rooms: Sociological Theory, Sociological Method, Applied Sociology, Common Psychology and Applied Psychology. Other units include the Department Office, Information Room and the Student Office. The department draws support from its highly-qualified and well-recognized faculty and staff.

The Economic Sociology of Sociology is designed to provide a theoretical base of economy and administration as well as solid core theory in the methods and skills of sociology. Graduates are engaged in advanced administration, consultation, investigation and research, planning, teaching and scientific research. The Economic Psychology of Applied Psychology is intended to cultivate a knowledge of economics and administration as well as provide a solid base of the theory, methods and skills of Psychology. Graduates are prepared to embark upon careers in administrative planning and design, policy evaluation, research on behavioral psychology, consultation in education, scientific research, etc. Currently, the department provides undergraduate programs in Economic Sociology of Sociology and Economic Psychology of Applied Psychology, and a postgraduate program leading to a master degree or a doctoral degree in Social Economics. The department currently has 80 undergraduates enrolled in these courses.

The department has adopted cross-discipline and inter-specialty modes of teaching. Economic Sociology offers the following courses: Introduction to Sociology, Foreign Sociological Theory, Method of Social Investigation and Research, Social Statistics, Economic Sociology, Sociology of Development, Introduction to Social Works, Social Psychology, History of Chinese Society and Thought, Introduction to Community, Anthropology, Demology, Money and Banking, Social Security, Accounting, Finance, Western Economics, Administration of Civil Economy, Psychology of Investment and Insurance, etc.

The main courses available within Economic Psychology are: Common Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Measure and statistic of Psychology, History of Psychology, Social Psychology, Economic Psychology, Administrative Psychology, Psychology of Investment, Psychology of Insurance and Bank, Psychology of Consumption, Investigation and Research on Public Opinion, Criminal Psychology, Psychology of Development, Psychology of Marketing, Psychological Health and Consultation, Human Resource Management, Money and Banking, Social Security, Accounting, Finance, Western Economics, Administration of Civil Economy and Insurance, etc.

The department utilizes three innovative systems for the cultivation of students: the undergraduate-supervisor system, studying association of teachers and students, and social practice and investigation system, which are integrated into a unified menu system. There are ten menus for each academic year and 1 theme menu for each month, making a total of forty theme activity menus for four-year courses.

In relation to scientific research, the department carries out cooperative research with each partner school or department and holds a series of forum activities about “social problems in the financial field”. Each year, the faculty members publish approximately eighty academic papers. Last year five papers were published in state-recognized, first-class journals of sociology. Faculty members also completed eighteen university-recognized projects.

School of Sports Economics and Management


The Department of Sports Economics and Management was established in August, 2003. It evolved from the Division of Physical Education in response to the rapid development of China’s sports industry and the resulting demand for well-qualified professionals in sports operations and management. With Beijing successful bid for 2008 Olympic Games, socialization and industrialization of China’s sports will increase and adopt global trends in the sports industry.

The Department comprises units such as the Department Office, the Teaching and Research Section of Public Physical Education, the Student Office and the Facilities Office for sports equipment. There are 30 faculty members, among whom there is 1 faculty member with a doctor degree, 6 members with master degrees, 1 member with a double-master degree, 7 members with advanced professional titles and 5 members with the title of master sportsman.

The department has the responsibility for the routine teaching and administration of the department’s students as well as public Physical Education courses for the entire university and the organization of the university’s sports activities. The content of Public Education courses for Grade 1 and Grade 2 includes basketball, volleyball, football, track and field, eurhythmics, wushu and tennis, etc. The Sports Economics program was authorized by Ministry of Education in October, 2002 and began recruiting students in September; 2003. The program has 23 students currently enrolled.

The department will also provide master programs in Sports Economics and Management beginning in 2005. The courses are as follows: basic knowledge of kinesiology, discipline training, sports industry, sports management, sports marketing, sports broker, sports economics, western economics, industrial economics, international economics, accounting, financial accounting, finance, monetary banking, management, financial management, assets evaluation and economic law. There are many other courses involving sports, economics, management, law, etc.

After 4 years of systematic training, students will understand the theory and method of sports training and competition. They will have acquired the policy and code of China’s sports, the regulations and methods of administration and operation of sports. They will also be familiar with the development trends of individual and competitive sports at home and abroad and the capacities for organization, operation and consultation of sports activities and games.

The faculty members have abundant teaching experience and strong research capabilities. They have developed an in-depth study on the sports industry and sports economics & management. In recent years, the faculty members have published more than 300 academic papers and undertaken one project of the "Tenth Five-year Plan" for the nation’s higher education. After its establishment, the department organized the sports economics seminar for universities and colleges focused on finance and economics and invited many experts in sports economics to give lectures to students and faculty members in the university, including experts from the University of Texas, Austin, USA. The department has become a pioneer in sports economics in China and has explored new directions in the cultivation of operations and administration professionals in sports economics and management.

Faculty

The university currently is home to more than 1067 full-time faculty and staff, including 110 professors and 237 associate professors as well as 50 foreign teachers. 78% of the faculty members have pursued master's and doctoral degrees.

Students

Currently there are more than 15,000 students registered at CUFE, including 8,000 full-time students. Among these students, 5494 are undergraduates, 2275 are graduates and PhD candidates, and about 300 are international students. The others are adult students from the schools of Continuing Education and Online Education.

CUFE has trained more than 60,000 experts in economics and management who have made , and continue to make, significant contributions to the development of China's economy. Many CUFE alumni hold key positions in government, such as Li Jinhua, the previous Auditor General of China.
