In 1596, Hamama was a village in the Ottoman nahiya of Gaza (liwa´ of Gaza), with a population of 462. It paid taxes on goats and beehives. Egyptian Army , Hamama was nevertheless occupied after an assault by theGiv'ati Brigade on 4 November 1948 duringOperation Yoav .
