Elizabeth Street, Sydney

Elizabeth Street is a street in the Central Business District of Sydney, Australia. The street runs from Hunter Street south, past Hyde Park and David Jones, Central station and through the inner city suburbs of Surry Hills, Redfern and Waterloo.

It was named by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1810 for his second wife, Elizabeth Henrietta Campbell (1778-1835). The street was earlier known as Mulgrave Street.

Elizabeth Street was a busy electric tram corridor for most services to and from the eastern suburbs until the lines closure in 1961. The street is now a busy bus corridor to and from the eastern suburbs.
