Evandro Chagas

Evandro Chagas (August 10, 1905 – November 8, 1940), was a Brazilian physician and biomedical scientist specialized in tropical medicine.

He was born in Rio de Janeiro, the eldest son of Carlos Chagas (1879-1934), noted physician and scientist who discovered Chagas disease, and brother of Carlos Chagas Filho (1910-2000), also a noted physician and scientist who was president of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Evandro Chagas died at an air crash in Rio de Janeiro at 35 years of age.

The Instituto Evandro Chagas, a basic and clinical research institution located in Belém, Pará state, Brazil, is named for him.
