Politics and Government

Ginowan is run by a city assembly of 28 elected members. The current mayor is Iha Yoichi, an independent affiliated with the Japanese Communist Party. One of the major issues is the three US military bases that surround and are embedded within Ginowan. Mayor Iha Yoichi and several of the local assemblymen are fierce opponents of the military bases.

Its tourist attractions include two castle ruins.
