September 1 ,1954 , as a merger of townships in the area around the train station and current city center. The centre of the city is dominated by the large multi-story station and the neighbouring Takashimaya department store. The station is a stop on both the main JR Jōban line out of Ueno station, and the Tōbu-Noda line. Kashiwa is home to a professional football team,Kashiwa Reysol .Through the Kashiwa International Relations Association, the city of Kashiwa maintains relationships with cities in
China ,Guam , and the continentalUnited States . Since 1973, Kashiwa has been the sister city of theLos Angeles suburb ofTorrance, California .History
Kashiwa is said to born from "kashiba" wharf in old Japanese.
In
Edo period , there were ranches for military horses ofTokugawa shogunate in the city. A few banks of the ranch are left.External links
