"Still D.R.E." is a song by Dr. Dre, released as the lead single from his multi-platinum second album "2001". This song features Snoop Dogg on the intro, chorus and outro.

Background

The single was very popular, helping the album reach multi-platinum status. The lyrics, co-written by Jay-Z (credited as S. Carter in the album's liner notes) announce Dre's triumphant return to the forefront of the hip-hop scene. A sample: The song was produced by Dre with Mel-Man, with Camara Kambon and Scott Storch on keyboards, who created the famous piano riff. It debuted at number 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 and fell off the charts soon after.

It interpolates Grant Green's "Maybe Tomorrow" from his 1971 album "Visions".

* The song "Still D.R.E" was used by producer Antoine Fuqua in his 2001 movie, Training Day. It is featured in a scene in the first half hour of the film which involves characters Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) and his new narcotics recruit, Jake Hoyte (Ethan Hawke). The two characters get into Harris's undercover car, after Harris tells him that they'll spend most of the day in the office, Hoyte inquires if "the office" is back at division, to which Harris replies "You're in the office, baby." At this point, the song's familiar piano line makes a profound entrance as the Chevrolet Monte Carlo's hydraulics lift the front and back of the car. The track continues to play as they cruise down the LA streets [www.youtube.com/watch?v=InPoPRfqNWM] . Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre later make appearances as characters in the film.
