Hiram Abiff Boaz

Hiram Abiff Boaz (1866-1962) was an American Bishop in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South and The Methodist Church, elected in 1922.

He was educated at Sam Houston Normal Institute and at Southwestern University.

Prior to his election to the Episcopacy, he served as President of Southern Methodist University, 1920-22.

Episcopal Service

Hiram Abiff Boaz was elected to the Episcopacy by the General Conference of the M.E. Church, South in 1922. He was assigned first the work of the Church, South in Japan, Korea and Manchuria. After four years he was assigned to Oklahoma and Arkansas for four years. Then Bishop Boaz was assigned to Texas and New Mexico for eight years. He retired at the final General Conference of the Church, South in 1938. In retirement he made his home in Dallas. Bishop Boaz died 2 January 1962 in Dallas.
