Biography
Young's parents were hippies.[1] He has four brothers: Alex, Damian, Jeff and Aaron. His father is a teacher in Cypress CA and his stepmother, Jeanne, is currently suffering from ALS. Young is actively involved in raising money and awareness for the ALS Association of Orange County.
He began attending No Doubt's concerts after they formed in 1987, the same year he began playing the drums. In 1989, No Doubt announced that they were looking for a new drummer, and Young auditioned. At the audition, he lied saying that he had been playing for some time now.
Young is known among fans for his affinity for wearing a thong, tutu, or naked with a mohawk during performances. He wears clown-type makeup onstage and can often be seen shirtless and in his thong in the band's music videos. He is known as the jokester of the band and has been long considered the comic relief.
When not performing, in the studio or touring, Young likes to spend his time out on the golf course as he is an avid golf player.[2] He is a scratch golfer who is a much desired participant in Celebrity Golf Tournaments such as the Michael Jordan Invitational, Alice Cooper Foundation Tournament and others. Young has participated in VH-1's Fairway to Heaven numerous times.
Personal life
On October 9, 1999, on the last night of the California Club Tour at The Fillmore in San Francisco, California, Adrian proposed to his longtime girlfriend Nina Kent on stage in front of the thousand-plus fans. Young kneeled down on one knee, professed his love and asked her to smash his back doors in. On 16 January 2000, Young married his fiancée, Nina Kent. Kent gave birth to a son, Mason James Young on 9 February 2002. In May 2010, Young and his wife, Nina, gave birth to their daughter who was delivered stillborn. Nina gave birth to a baby girl called Magnolia Renée Young on 10 June 2011.[3]
