Grand Zulu

Grand Zulu (勁將軍) is an Australian thoroughbred racehorse. Sired by Grand Lodge, a son of Chief's Crown, and out of dam Bravo Zulu, he won four races from seven starts in Australia. In 2004, he beat a number of top Australian stayers including Mummify, Makybe Diva and Elvstroem, to win the Group One The BMW Stakes by setting the record time. After the race, his breeder and owner David Choy decided to pull Grand Zulu out of the AJC Derby and send him to Hong Kong instead. Grand Zulu found struggling during his Hong Kong career. He did not win a race from six starts in Hong Kong, including the failed campaign in the Hong Kong Derby. He was initially retired from racing in 2005, but has returned to Australia for the 2006 Spring Carnival with aspirations of finding his form of 2004. He is back with Australian trainer Gwenda Markwell. After running 3rd to Desert War and Eremein in the 1900m Hill Stakes against a very handy field at Rosehill Racecourse, Grand Zulu has shown he is well on his way to attaining that goal.
