Stefan, Count Palatine of Simmern-Zweibrücken

Stefan of Simmern-Zweibrücken ( _de. Stefan Pfalzgraf von Simmern-Zweibrücken) (23 June 1385 – 14 February 1459, Simmern) was Count Palatine of Simmern and Zweibrücken from 1410, and Count Palatine of Veldenz and Sponheim from 1444.

He was the son of King Rupert of Germany and his wife Elisabeth of Nuremberg. After the death of Rupert the Palatinate was divided between four of his surviving sons. Louis III received the main part, Johann received Pfalz-Neumarkt, Stefan received Pfalz-Simmern and Otto received Pfalz-Mosbach.

In 1410 Stefan married Anna of Veldenz. She died in 1439, and after the death of her father in 1444 Stefan also obtained Veldenz. In the same year he divided the country between his sons Frederick I, Count Palatine of Simmern and Louis I, Count Palatine of Zweibrücken. In 1448 he succeeded to one part of Pfalz-Neumarkt and purchased the other from Otto.

With Anna of Veldenz he had the following children:
# Anna (1413 – after 1468) married before 10 March 1435 to Count Vinzenz of Mörs and Saarwerden.
# Margarete (1416 – 23 November 1426, Wachenheim).
# Frederick I, Count Palatine of Simmern (19 November 1417 – 29 November 1480, Simmern).
# Ruprecht (1420 – 17 October 1478, Zabern), Bishop of Strassburg in 1440-1478.
# Stefan (1421 – 4 September 1485, Köln), a canon in Köln, Speyer, Mainz, Liege.
# Louis I, Count Palatine of Zweibrücken (1424 – 19 July 1489, Simmern).
# Johann (1429 – 1475), Archbishop of Magdeburg in 1466-1475.

He was buried in the Cathedral of the Teutonic Knights in Meisenheim.
