] This University is based in the city of Gandhinagar, which is the capital of Gujarat and is located 30 kilometers north to the metropolitan city of Ahmedabad. The University started its official functioning in the year 2004 and has five batches of 160 students each, currently under training.

Introduction

This University was formed in the year 2003 on the structure that was established two decades ago by the National Law School of India University, Bangalore. This University offers its students a course of five years, and upon graduation provides the degrees, B.A, LL.B (Hons.), B.Com, LL.B (Hons.) and B.Sc., LL.B (Hons.).It is one of India’s premier institutes of law and is currently located at Sector 26, Gandhinagar.

Centres of Excellence

Gujarat National Law University aims to create Centres of Excellence in particular fields of law over the years. They are:
* School of Law, Science and Technology
* School of Public Law and Policy Sciences
* School of Criminal Law and Criminology
* School of Law and Economics
* School of Personal Laws
* School of Social Sciences
* School of Physical and Life Sciences

Academic Set Up

The University has its intensive and exhaustive curriculum based on the National Law School model and follows a two semester per year pattern. The University also encourages and includes additional project work, report writing, research and analysis in its syllabus.

Extra Curricular Activities

Moot Courts and other legal events are held regularly in the University, as a part of the curriculum as well as an extra curricular activity. The University has a Moot Court Committee for conduct of moot court activities. Students of the University have been regularly participating in National and International Moot Court activities and have been bringing accolades for the university from India and abroad.

The Literary and Debating Committee also conducts regular Intra Collegiate competitions and has organised events like Quizzes, Antakshari, and JAM. The Cultural Committee and Mess Committee are also active in their respective areas. The Legal Aid Committee also organises legal knowledge camps and has conducted programmes to increase legal awareness.The University also runs a monthly online e-journal titled Just Cause which contains articles and reviews, mostly contributed by the students of the University.

University Infrastrucure

Library

The University has a well equipped library which contains books relating to various subjects in law as well as other non law subjects like Commerce, History and Sociology. The library can be accessed by the students from 9.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The library also possesses various Law Reports both National and International.

IT Infrastructure

The University has a state of the art computer laboratory with internet connection consisting of more than 40 new computers. The Computer laboratory is located in the University campus and is open till 8 p.m. However, the University provides 24/7 Internet access to its students in the Hostels by means of a Wi-Fi connection. The University campus is also equipped with a Wi-Fi connection.

eminars and Conferences

The Gujarat National Law University organises regular seminars and Conferences and noted dignitaries have delivered lectures at the University. Some of them include Justice Y.K Sabharwal, the ex-CJI of India, Justice C.K. Thakker, Judge, SC of India, noted legal personality and Former Attorney General of India, Soli Sorabjee and Prof. Upendra Baxi.

The first batch from the university is yet to graduate and will do so in 2009.
