Falmouth Academy (also known as FA) is a private preparatory school for day students in grades 7-12 located in Falmouth, Massachusetts on Cape Cod.

Falmouth Academy was founded in 1979, and held its first classes in a small facility in Falmouth Center, then in a building on Otis Air Base in Bourne, Mass. Ten years later, philanthropist Josiah K. Lilly III donated 34 acres bordering Falmouth's Beebe Woods to the school, and the school remains there today at 7 Highfield Drive.

From its founding until 2005, Falmouth Academy was led by headmaster Bruce Buxton. After Buxton's departure in 2005, David Faus became headmaster.

Falmouth Academy's endowment is $300 million.

Academics

Falmouth Academy teaches its 215 students from a core curriculum of English, history, science, mathematics and foreign languages (French and German). Emphasis is on reading and writing. Its science program is particularly strong. Since 1994, the school has had six semi-finalists and two finalists in the Intel Science Talent Search and the Siemens Westinghouse Science and Technology Competition. The average class size is twelve students.

Falmouth Academy's elective class opportunities include those in the arts, music and theater, with members of the senior class given an option to create and teach their own electives, such as flag football, which must meet with the approval of the faculty. This is a valuable learning experience for those seniors who pursue this option. The school is also a founding member of the Small Independent Schools Art League (SISAL).

Student Body

The 215-person student body hails from as far as Duxbury, Marion/Mattapoisett, Yarmouth and Martha's Vineyard. Approximately 60 percent of applicants are admitted. In 2006, all 30 members of the graduating class were admitted to college. In 2005, the mean verbal SAT score was 665 and mean math score 662.

Approximately 35 percent of students at Falmouth Academy receive financial aid. The tuition for the 2008-09 school year is $20,625.
