Scott Kannberg

Scott Kannberg

Scott Kannberg (born 1966, Stockton) is a former guitarist of the influential 1990s indie-rock band Pavement; he is also a childhood friend of lead singer Stephen Malkmus. Kannberg is from Stockton, California (where he met Stephen Malkmus). He contributed an average of about two songs per album during the band's career. He currently has his own band called Preston School of Industry on Matador Records. Among his noted influences are Velvet Underground, and the Philadelphia based band, Hot Words .Fact|date=January 2007 His nickname "Spiral Stairs" was originally used to create mystery about the band, similarly to how Stephen Malkmus went under the name SM, as is noted on the Slanted and Enchanted artwork.
