Diversitas

Diversitas

Diversitas is an international programme on biodiversity science. It is one of four such programmes that collectively come under the Earth System Science Partnership. Diversitas is trying to promote biodiversity research as basis of sustainability by means of projects, declarations (like the 2007 Buffon Declaration) and international networking.

Its stated mission is to:

promote an integrative biodiversity science, linking biological, ecological and social disciplines in an effort to produce socially relevant new knowledge; and provide the scientific basis for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.[1]

Diversitas was established in 1991, and its founding sponsors were the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment and the International Union of Biological Sciences.[2]
