Gdańsk Główny is a railway station in Gdańsk, Poland. The station is the main passenger station for the city of Gdańsk, as it is localised in the centre of the city. Access is easy due to a large number of communication routes intersecting near the station building (both trams and buses).

General information

The station operates five platforms, of which two are in fact SKM stops. The remaining three operate PKP Przewozy Regionalne and PKP Intercity trains. Access to platforms is made available via subterranean passages, both from the east and west sides of the city. At the east side the passage ends on the other side of Podwale Grodzkie street, and on the west it goes directly into a PKS (long-distance bus) station. The passages enable access to the station building and tram stops; inside them, many facilities are located, including but not limited to: shops, fast food bars and press outlets. One can also find individual vendors selling their products directly from their hands.

tation building

The station building hails from the end of the 19th century. Nowadays there is a small shopping centre on the patio, a McDonald's restaurant and a few other fast food (like KFC) outlets inside the building. Ticket offices are open all day, and the station sells international traffic tickets.

History

During a pre-war time Gdańsk Główny was named "Danzig Hbf." In the end of the World War II Soviet forces burned the station building almost completely (the same as they did with the rest of the city), and it had to be rebuilt after the war.
