Pope Matthew IV of Alexandria was the Coptic Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark (
1660– 1676). Also known as Pope Matta Elmeeri
He was originally from Meer, hence the name Elmeeri ,and joined the
Paromeos Monasteryin the Nitrian Desertbefore becoming a Pope.
On his first day as a
Coptic Popehe transferred the Seat of the Coptic Orthodox Pope of Alexandriafrom Church of the Virigin Mary (Haret Zuweila)to Saint Mary Church (Haret Elroum).
