Samantha Armytage

Samantha Armytage

Samantha Armytage (born September 4, 1977) is an Australian journalist and television news reporter. She is currently presenter of "Seven's 4.30 News", and co-host of Weekend Sunrise, alongside Andrew O'Keefe, replacing Lisa Wilkinson who defected to the Nine Network. She is also a regular fill-in presenter for various Seven News network bulletins.

Biography

Early life

Armytage studied journalism at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst. As a student, she was a broadcaster with the on-campus community radio station 2MCE-FM.

Career

She began her career at WIN Television in Canberra in 1999, following this she joined Sky News in 2002 and was chief political reporter. She joined Seven in April 2003.

In December 2004, she landed her first major presenting role, filling-in presenting the Sydney 6pm weeknight news over the Summer non-ratings period. Following the non-ratings period she has had stints presenting the national Morning News bulletin, the national late news updates, and filling in presenting Sydney's local news bulletin.

In 2005 and 2006, Armytage was the regular presenter on Sydney's edition of Seven News on Fridays. When Ian Ross went on holidays in late June to early July 2006, Sam presented the weekend edition of Seven News. This was also the case over summer 2006.

Armytage replaced Mike Amor as host of Seven's 4.30 News. Mike Amor had replaced Rebecca Maddern as presenter when the network moved production from the Melbourne broadcast centre to the Sydney studios, in what proved to be (in ratings terms) a bad decision.

Occasionally she presents Seven Late News Updates and fills in for Today Tonight East Coast.
