Essex ,England . The club was established on 27th April1969 and currently plays in theIsthmian League Division One North . An application to the Essex FA and theIsthmian League to rename the club Thurrock United from the start of the 2007-08 season was rejected.History
Foundation
The club was founded on 27th April 1969 by a group of fans who felt that the area around
Corringham andStanford-Le-Hope should have a seniornon-league football club, following the successful Corringham Social Sunday League side, which had gained some local fame in the 1960s. The first league in which the club played was the Southern Essex Combination, where they spent one season before transferring to the Greater London League. After winning the championships of Division Two and Division One in successive seasons, the club gained senior status and with it a place in the Metropolitan London League, where they immediately gained promotion to the Premier Division.By 1978 the team was playing in the
London Spartan League but in 1979 they switched to theEssex Senior League , where they played until 1992 when a third-place finish saw them promoted to theIsthmian League , initially in Division Three. In 1999-2000 they won the championship of this division and were promoted to Division Two, then switched to Division One North upon league reorganisation. In 2004 reorganisation of the pyramid saw them moved into the Eastern Division of theSouthern Football League , where they finished second in their first season, although further reorganisation saw them placed in the Premier Division of the Isthmian League, rather than the Southern League, where they remained until the 2007/08 season, where they were relegated from the Premier Division, finishing 19th in the league, following a one point deduction for fielding an ineligible player.Grounds
During the club's first season as members of the Southern Essex Combination, in 1969-70, home matches were played at Corringham Recreation Ground. They subsequently moved to the Billet in Stanford-Le-Hope, before ground-sharing with nearby Grays Athletic in order to achieve senior status. The club spent further spells sharing with Tilbury and Grays, among others until finally, with the help of the The FA, Thurrock Council and brewers
Greene King , the club acquired some land inCorringham and built Rookery Hill.Club records
