Raised at "Caimito", a San Juan "barrio" that is actually much closer to the center of the city of Caguas than it is to that of San Juan, Rafael used to train at the "Caimito Gym", but he also frequented theBairoa Gym .Rafael Solis is the brother of former world bantamweight champion
Julian Solis and of Enrique Solis, who once unsuccessfully challengedEusebio Pedroza for the world Featherweight title.Rafael Solis had a successful
boxing career, fighting in manyLatin American countries, such asVenezuela ,Dominican Republic and others. In1981 , he conquered the "Fecarbox" Jr. Lightweight belt. OnNovember 18 ,1983 , he challengedHector Camacho for the WBC's world Jr. Lightweight title. In what was the second time two Puerto Rican fighters fought each other for a world title (the first time was Benitez vs. Santos in1981 ), Solis lost to Camacho by knockout in round five atRoberto Clemente Coliseum .Solis went on boxing, with mixed success. He would never again fight for the world title. Nowadays, he performs at boxing exhibitions alongside brother Julian.
