Callerton Parkway Metro station

Callerton Parkway Metro station

Callerton Parkway station, in Newcastle upon Tyne, is a station on the Tyne and Wear Metro Green line, which opened on 17 November 1991, when the line was extended to Newcastle Airport. It is not located near any significant housing estates, and as a result is one of the Metro stations with the lowest patronage.Fact|date=September 2007 Because of good road links, the station is used as a transfer point to buses travelling to locations in Northumberland.

The station is located where the Metro route crosses Callerton Lane and the platforms are located on the south side of the road.

On 16 April 2008, Nexus announced plans to spend £60,000 installing enforcement cameras at the automatic open level crossing, in a bid to reduce the number of motorists who ignore the level crossing stop lights. [cite press release

] Although the traffic lanes are separated by a traffic island and railings to prevent vehicles overtaking on the level crossing, this location still accounts for almost half of the road traffic incidents at level crossings on the Metro network. [cite news
