__noTOC__Highway 216, also known as Anthony Henday Drive, is the highway designation for the current construction project of a ring road around Edmonton, Alberta. The road is being built within the Transportation and Utilities Corridor, which consists of land owned by the province. The land was purchased though the 1970s and 1980s and encircles the city. More than half of the road is completed, starting at the eastern section from Yellowhead Trail / Highway 16, south to Highway 14, then west to Calgary Trail / Gateway Boulevard / Highway 2, further west and then north to 137 Avenue north of the Yellowhead Trail / Highway 16.

The southeastern section from Calgary Trail / Gateway Boulevard to Highway 14 was completed October 23, 2007. The southeastern section is a public-private partnership (P3 — also known as a design-build-operate project), in which Access Roads won the contract for $493 million to build the road and maintain it for 30 years [ [http://www.accessroadsedmonton.ca/ahd.shtml Access Roads Edmonton ] ] .

On the northern section of Anthony Henday Drive, construction is finished from Highway 16 in the west, north to 137 Ave, where it will meet St. Albert's project of a regional road, bypassing the city to the west. Alberta's Premier, Ed Stelmach, has confirmed that the province wants most of the north leg of the Anthony Henday ring road to be completed by 2011 [ [http://www.gov.ab.ca/acn/200707/21828F8958717-ED2C-758A-801CFFD01CC5FAFB.html North Edmonton Ring Road moves ahead as a P3 project ] ] . Construction of the next leg will run 21 km from the Yellowhead west of 184 Street to Manning Drive (Highway 15). When the north stretch is done, a 9 km gap in the northeast will remain. This final completion of the ring includes a crossing over the North Saskatchewan River, so approvals from Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Transport Canada, as well as intense environmental studies, will be needed.

Interchanges and Intersections

Eventually the entire route will have freeway status, which means grade separation at all crossings to allow free-flow traffic. This is a list of all the intersections (completed and planned) starting at the eastern intersection of the Anthony Henday and the Yellowhead Trail, heading clockwise.
