Location

Azizabad is located in Federal B. Area (or F.B.Area) Karachi, and is surrounded by Dastagir Society block 9, block 7 of F.B Area, Karimabad, Gharibabad and Yasinabad. It was the first low-cost housing initiative in Pakistan aimed to settle low-income families in proper houses rather than in hutments.

Ethnic groups

There are several ethnic groups including Muhajirs, Punjabis, Sindhis, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Pakhtuns, Balochis, Memons, Bohras Ismailis, etc. Over 99% of the population is Muslim.

Population

The population of Azizabad is estimated to be 67,863 as of 2006. Azizabad is famous because of MQM's Headquarters (House of Altaf Hussain). Most of the population of Azizabad is educated middle class and peaceful. Vast majority belongs to Urdu speaking migrants from India or their descendants. Azizabad has various residential blocks: 1, 3 and 8. MQM's head office "Nine-Zero"(which was Altaf Hussain's old residence) is in block 8. Close to Nine-Zero is "Mukka Chowk" which is a round about with Liaquat Ali Khan's famous "Mukka"(fist) sculpture in the centre, surrounded by beautiful fountains and colourful lights. Now-a-days, the worst traffic congestion is witnessed almost everyday at Mukka Chowk due to this small round-about and extreme pressure of traffic. Close to Nine-Zero and Mukka Chowk is Jinnah Cricket Ground, where regular cricket matches and tournaments were played in the past and great cricketers like Javed Miandad and others played matches there. Now-a-days this ground is mostly used for political gatherings of MQM and telephonic addresses of Altaf Hussain from London.
