Ratodero is the capital of Ratodero Taluka a "sub-division" of Larkana District in the Sindh province of Pakistan, it is located some 30 km away from the district capital Larkana . It is named after a Jalbani-tribe Landlord "Ratto Khan Jalbani" before Indo-Pak partition, the city has a special reputation for its "sweet products". The most special is known as "Mawa" and hand-made caps known as "Sindhi Topi" and footwear. At present the principal trade of the town is that of paddy and rice, and there are many rice mills.

There are many government offices in the town including Mukhtiarkar, Sub-divisional educational officer, Sub court, Taluka Police head quarter, Executive Engineer WAPDA, Sub rural health centre, sixty bed hospital, Post office, Government high school, and Degree college. In addition to that there are branches of following banks in the town Habib Bank, National Bank and United Bank.

History

This town was found by Rato Mal Deawan in the days of Talpur dynasty. The great Sukkur Wah (the Canal leading from the Indus) once flown near the town, and was abolished after the construction of the Sukkur barrage. In the days of Sukkur Wah the town was a superb and a prosper trade port. Merchants used to trade with Sukkur and other adjacent towns through the boats via this canal.

Geography

Ratodero town is the headquarters of the Taluka of the same name. It is situated in 27-48∘ latitude in north and 68-20∘ longitude in east. It is located on the way from Larkana to Shikarpur. Besides, many roads, both main and link, lead from this town to surrounding towns and villages. There are roads leading to Shahdad Kot, Kamber, MiroKhan, Naudero and Larkana. The town consists of several Mohallas, notably among them are Mohalla Motan Pur, Fateh Pur, Kande Ji Kund, Hasan Pur, and High School Road

Recently city has witnessed rapid development as it has become the junction for RCD and Indus Highway which comes from Karachi and Quetta.
