Ruby Turner was born in
Montego Bay ,Jamaica . She moved to Handsworth,Birmingham ,England when she was nine years old. Her major break came in the mid 1980s, when she joinedCulture Club . A solorecording contract withJive Records closely followed. Her firstalbum , "Women Hold Up Half The Sky", was released in 1986, to critical acclaim.Other albums were released over the next few years, and included such hits as "
If You're Ready (Come Go With Me) " (a duet withJonathan Butler of acover version of theStaple Singers 'song ) and "I'd Rather Go Blind ".
