Bendix Hallenstein

Bendix Hallenstein

Bendix Hallenstein (1835 (January 24?) - January 6, 1905) was a merchant, statesman, and manufacturer from Dunedin, New Zealand. He was born in Brunswick, Germany. A clothing retailer, "Hallensteins", still bears his name. He also founded the D.I.C. (department store) in Dunedin in 1884.

He represented the electorate of Wakatipu in Parliament from 1872 to 1873, when he resigned.

A descendent Charles Brasch was a poet, literary editor and arts patron.
