Yevhen Stankovych

Yevhen Stankovych (September 19, 1942- ) is one of the most famous contemporary Ukrainian composers of stage, orchestral, chamber, and choral works. He is of world renown, having most of his works performed around the globe.

Biography

Yevhen was born in Svaliava, Ukraine (in the Transcarpathians). In 1962-63, he studied composition with Adam Soltys at the L'viv Mykola Lysenko Conservatoire. From 1965 to 1970 Yehven studied composition with Boris Lyatoshynsky and Myroslav Skoryk at the Kyiv State P. Tchaikovsky Conservatoire. He has worked as a music editor, a chairman of the Ukrainian Composers' Union, and has been working as a professor of composition in the Kyiv State P. Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, now the National Music Academy of Ukraine, since 1998.

Works

Dr. Yehven Stankovych has also received many awards and honours for his compositions. His works include 12 symphonies, 5 ballets, 1 opera, instrumental concertos, chamber and film music.
