William D. Mason

William D. Mason

William D. Mason (1959- ) is the prosecutor of Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He took office in 1999, succeeding Stephanie Tubbs Jones. He was elected in 2000 and reelected in 2004 against nominal opposition.

Mason was born and raised in Parma, Ohio, and was a noted wrestler in high school. After taking his undergraduate degree at Kent State University, Mason graduated from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law with a J.D. in 1986 and became an assistant prosecuting attorney for Cuyahoga County, Ohio. While an assistant prosecutor, he became involved in Parma, Ohio Democratic politics and was elected law director of Parma before taking his current position.

He was a delegate to the 2000 Democratic National Convention. Mason co-wrote, with Jack P. DeSario, "Dr. Sam Sheppard on Trial: Case Closed" (Kent State University Press 2003). Mason supported John Kerry at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Mason also supported Barack Obama for the 2008 Ohio primary. Bill and his wife Carol have four children: Jordan, Cassie, Marty, and Kelly. Bill has 15 brothers and sisters. His parents are Bob and Martha Mason.
