Andreas Hinkel (born March 26, 1982 in Backnang) is a German footballer who plays for Scottish Premier League club Celtic F.C.. He is an attacking right back who is well known for his dribbling skills.

Club career

After finishing in second with Stuttgart in 2002-03, and already established as first-choice, Hinkel took part in UEFA Champions League for the first time in his career. In March 2004, however, he suffered a knee ligament injury. On June 23, 2006, Hinkel signed a 4-year contract with Sevilla FC. The transfer fee was estimated to be around €4million.

Unable to dislodge perennial right-back Daniel Alves, on January 4, 2008, he was confirmed as Scottish giants Celtic F.C.'s new signing, for a fee of £1.9 million. International career

Hinkel has represented his country on 17 occasions at senior level, making his debut in 2003 against Serbia and Montenegro. He was part of the German squad during Euro 2004 (having recovered from aforementioned knee injury), but missed the 2006 World Cup. He made a return to the national team in September 2008, ahead of Germany's matches with Liechtenstein and Finland.
