Rui José Lopes Águas (born 28 April, 1960, Lisbon, Portugal) was a Portuguese former professional footballer and manager. He played as a striker for both of the big Portuguese clubs, Benfica and Porto, as well as having a spell in Italy with Reggiana. He also player for the Portuguese national team during his career.

He is the son of another great Portuguese footballer, José Águas 1983/84, he signed for a I Division team Portimonense from Atlético.He started his career with local club GD Sesimbra at youth before turning professional.He was one of the best Benfica players, were he won the National Championship for the seasons of 1986/87, 1990/91 and 1993/94.He was present at the UEFA Champions League in 1988 which he lost to PSV Eindhoven 5-6 on penalties.He shocked many Benfica fans wen he signed for rivals FC Porto at the summer of 1988. He played there until 1989/90, winning that year's championship, but he returned to Benfica for the 1990/91 season. He remained there until 1993/94, playing a final season in Estrela Amadora, and, then, in Reggiana, in Italy, were he ended his career, aged 35.

International career

He had is first cap for the National Team, at 3 April 1985, in a 0-2 defeat with Italy, in a friendly match. He moved to Benfica in 1985/86, and was present at the World Cup finals in 1986, playing as a substitute at the 1-3 defeat with Morocco.He had 31 caps for the National Team, scoring 10 goals. His last game was the last for the 1994 World Cup qualifyers, at 17th November,1993, lost to Italy by 0-1.
