Goodman School of Drama

The Goodman School of Drama is now renamed The Theatre School at DePaul University. Founded in 1925 in Chicago, Illinois, a city with a rich theatrical heritage, the Goodman School became part of DePaul University in 1978 and was renamed The Theatre School at DePaul University in 1982. The Theatre School is the Midwest region's oldest theatre conservatory and is ranked as one of the top professional theatrical training programs in the United States, enrolling approximately 320 students from North America and abroad. The Theatre School's main performance space is the Merle Reskin Theatre (formerly Blackstone Theatre) in Downtown Chicago.

With 15 areas of study, The Theatre School offers B.F.A. degrees in Acting, Costume Design, Costume Technology, Dramaturgy/Criticism, Lighting Design, Playwriting, Scenic Design, Sound Design, Stage Management, Theatre Arts, Theatre Management and Theatre Technology. The M.F.A. program confers degrees in Acting, Arts Leadership and Directing.

The Theatre School practices a “learning by doing” philosophy, producing almost two dozen public theatrical productions each season. The Theatre School Showcase features contemporary and classic plays, while the Chicago Playworks for Families and Young Audiences presents plays for children.
