Harrie van Heumen

Harrie van Heumen

Harrie van Heumen (born December 24, 1959 in Nijmegen, Netherlands) is a former ice hockey forward from The Netherlands, who participated in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. He earned 89 caps, and scored 32 points for the Dutch national side.

Van Heumen started to play ice hockey at age nine and made his senior debut as a fifteen year old youngster in the 1974-1975 season. As so many in that period he was a product of the Alex Andjelic' Youth Program in Nijmegen, and he was one of the first talents that came out of that. He was a constant goalscorer due to his natural speed and on-ice vision.

Van Heumen went to Rotterdam together with Robbert Prick van Wely and Ben Tijnagel before the 1986-1987 season. He played there for five seasons, won the championship three times, before moving to Utrecht in the 1991-1992 season. He did not stay long in Utrecht and returned home to Nijmegen during that same season. He continued to play for the club until 1994.

Van Heumen coached Nijmegen during a brief period in the 1999-2000 season, and returned on the ice as a player the year after that for Den Bosch. The forward played a total of fifteen years for Nijmegen, in which he competed in 477 games and tallied a total of 584 points. He won the Dutch title five times. He finished his playing career playing 2000-01 with 's-Hertogenbosch Red Eagles.
