"Just a Little While" is a pop rock–funk rock song written by American singer-songwriter Janet Jackson and American singer-producer Dallas Austin for Jackson's eight studio album, "Damita Jo" (2004). Released in early 2004 as the album's lead single, the Austin-produced track found moderate success on the music charts.

Jackson said that the song leaked in Europe and she and her record label had to rush with a video and promotion after the song made it worldwide. This was Jackson's first solo single to miss the top forty since her 1986 breakout album "Control". The song received positive reception, but due to the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show incident, it was a commercial disappointment, peaking at number forty-five in the United States, and lacked in urban radio airplay. There is also an original Just Blaze-produced dance version of "Just a Little While" called "Love Me", which leaked to the Internet.

Chart performance

"Just a Little While" was the highest-charting single from "Damita Jo"; it debuted at number thirteen on the "Billboard" Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles the week of February 14, 2004, entering the "Billboard" Hot 100 at number forty-seven the following week and later peaking at number forty-five. While the song failed to chart on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, it gave Jackson her fifteenth chart-topper on the Hot Dance Club Play. The single's overall chart performance outside the United States was moderately successful. It managed to make the top five in Canada and the top twenty in the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, Denmark, and Hungary. Also, "Just a Little While" hit number one on Japan's J-Wave Tokio Hot 100 airplay chart for five weeks.

Music video

The video was directed by Dave Meyers. In the video, Jackson makes a DVD for her dreadlocked boyfriend. The costume she wears in the video is very similar to the one she wore during the "wardrobe malfunction" at the infamous Super Bowl incident. Jackson's friends show up and they continue making the DVD until her boyfriend shows up with a kitten as a present for her. The video for this song was not released in the United States. The video was only available on the enhanced CD single, while a live version of the video, shot in London for the French TV show "Hits & Co", was included on the "" DVD. The original video can also be found on YouTube, on "EMI DVD Sampler: Vol. 4", and for download on P2P file sharing programs such as Kazaa.
