USS Walter X. Young

USS Walter X. Young

Two ships of the United States Navy have been assigned the name USS "Walter X. Young", in honor of Lieutenant Walter X. Young (1918–1942), an officer of the United States Marine Corps who was killed in action during the Battle of Guadalcanal.

* The first, "Walter X. Young" (DE-723), was a "Rudderow"-class destroyer escort. However, the contract for her construction was cancelled before work on the ship began.

* The second, "Walter X. Young" (APD-131), was a "Crosley"-class transport, launched in 1944 and struck in 1962.
