The 2 arrondissements of the Guadeloupe department are:
# Arrondissement of Basse-Terre, (prefecture of the Guadeloupe department: Basse-Terre) with 17 cantons and 18 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 152,978 in 1990, and was 175,691 in 1999, an increase of 14.85%.
# Arrondissement of Pointe-à-Pitre, (subprefecture: Pointe-à-Pitre) with 23 cantons and 14 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 200,453 in 1990, and was 210,875 in 1999, an increase of 5.2%.

Guadeloupe formerly had a third arrondissement, the Arrondissement of Saint-Martin-Saint-Barthélemy, (subprefecture: Saint-Martin) with 3 cantons and 2 communes, but this arrondissement ceased to exist when the communes of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy were officially detached from Guadeloupe on February 22, 2007.
