Weberwiese (Berlin U-Bahn)

Weberwiese (Berlin U-Bahn)

Weberwiese is a Berlin U-Bahn station located on the rail text color|system=BVG|line=U5 line from Alexanderplatz to Hönow. The stations on this line have been recently redeveloped, and are colour coded. Weberwiese is tiled and painted in yellow.

The station started service in 1930 named "Memeler Straße", after the town of Memel (today Klaipėda). Its architect was Alfred Grenander, who also constructed the other stations of former line E.

In 1950 the station became renamed to "Marchlewskistraße", which is a street in the area, named after politician Julian Balthasar Marchlewski (1866–1925).

After German reunification, the Berlin senate decided to rename the station to "Weberwiese" in 1992, after a place near the station. Its German name means "Weaver's meadow".

In 2003, Weberwiese station became renovated. After that, it got a very different appearance with yellow tiles in contrast to its former white ones.
