Taang! Records

Taang! Records

Taang! Records is an independent record label based in San Diego, California. The label mainly releases records by punk, Oi!, Ska and hardcore bands.

Originally founded in 1981 in Boston, Massachusetts, Taang! also ran a storefront in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The store itself was known at that time for the collection of punk rockers who essentially lived there. For a short time, the store’s DIY prices and location made it a punk landmark and helped to revitalize the underground music scene in Boston in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

With little fanfare or advance notice, the entire Taang! operation moved to California in the early 1990s. The label still sells many of its original Boston hardcore albums, in addition to its later California additions.

The label, and its infamous founder, Curtis Casella, are featured in the 2006 Sony Pictures Classics documentary "American Hardcore ".
