“Rung Bung Chim” means a place (Bung / chim) for Rung (Shauka) people. It was an interesting custom among the Rung (Shauka) people of Darma, Chaudas and Byans valley located in,
Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. “Rung Bung Chim” provided platform to young souls for interaction and introduction. Young female used to attend “rung bung chim” located in their village and young males used to visit “Rung Bung Chim” in others villages. Mostly these young girls were accompanied by senior ladies of their village, who had interest in folk songs and dancing. It was almost mandatory for all “Rung Bung Chim” visitors to dance and sing folk songs in own language. As entry to “Rung Bung Chim” was restricted to Rung community people only, many outsiders unknown this system gave name of “night club” to “Rung Bung Chim”.Young male member used to assist their seniors in their traditional trade with Tibbet and remained out of their native for almost 7-8 months in a year. Likewise young females used to help their family in agriculture work and house-hold activities. As such “Rung Bung Chim” used to be lively during off-business-season period. “Rung Bung Chim” has become defunct due to break in their traditional trade and movement of young souls from of their native for higher studies and jobs.
