Thomas King Carroll

Thomas King Carroll (April 29, 1793ndash October 3, 1873) served as Democratic Governor of the state of Maryland in the United States from 1830 to 1831. He also served as a judge, and in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1816 to 1817.

Carroll was born in Dorchester County, Maryland to Henry James Carroll and Elizabeth Barnes King, and was part of one of the state's most prominent families. He was related to Charles Carroll of Carrollton, who was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He married Julia Stevenson, the daughter of Dr. Henry Stevenson and Anne Henry, with whom he had eight children.

Carroll's eldest daughter, Anna Ella Carroll (1815-1893), is known as President Lincoln's "unofficial cabinet member". She was a political pamphleteer and constitutional theorist who claimed to have played an important role in determining the Union's strategy during the American Civil War (1861–1865).

Thomas Carroll died in Kingstown Hall, Somerset County, Maryland

Thomas King Carroll died in Dorchester County, Maryland. He is buried in the cemetery at Old Trinity Church, Dorchester County, as is his daughter Anna Ella Carroll.
