Ray Sherwin , Carroll is widely considered to be the originator of Chaos Magic as an independent field of occult exploration. Carroll and Sherwin created the a loosely organized group called theIlluminates of Thanateros .In 1995, Carroll announced his desire to step down from the "roles of magus and pontiff of chaos".
