East Bowling

East Bowling is an area of south Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, located approximately one mile from the city centre. It is roughly bordered by a triangle which stretches from the bottom of Hall Lane, south up Bowling Hall Road, on the east side of Bowling Park and Bowling Cemetery and then east along Rooley Lane and north down Wakefield Road to the Junction again with Hall Lane.

The housing stock in the area is mainly late Victorian Terrace houses, built at the turn of the 20th century, with some more modern houses at the bottom of Hall Lane, the Flockton/Sheridan estates and the top of Bowling Hall Road next to the Cemetery. There are churches of several faiths within the area, including St John's Anglican, and New Hey Road Methodist. St Ann's Roman Catholic Church closed in 1996 due to falling numbers. The parish was amalgamated with St Joseph, Manchester Road. When the area was first constructed, it was a well to do part of Bradford, and built at a time when the city was thriving. In recent years East Bowling has become rather down at heel, and looks a very shabby version of how it used to be. Several local government schemes to improve the area have made some impression, but the area is now home to people at the lower end of the payscale. The big old houses are cheap to buy, and much larger than the newer houses.

East Bowling is not to be confused with West Bowling, an area high in council housing, and smaller more run down houses.
