Althone Folk Lore

It was a strongly believed legend by the population of the pre-nineteenth century Dengie Peninsula, that 'Riverview Hill Lake' was an enchanted lake. People from all around the Dengie would travel to bathe in the lake in the hope of revitalizing their body and soul, or else curing some form of ill health. The lake was thought to be linked to a legendary white wizard who lived on Riverview Hill. The history of the enchanted lake is thought to be linked to the high population of the elderly who currently reside within Althorne, as many elderly people of the pre-nineteenth century decided to move to Althorne for the benefit of more frequent bathing in the lake. Despite the myth's influence on Althorne's population, no evidence has been found concerning any kind of healing power possessed by 'Riverview Hill Lake'.
