It is served by the Caldervale Line operated by Northern Rail. The station is 32 miles (51 km) west of Leeds and 17¼ miles (27 km) north east of Manchester Victoria. Walsden is the last station before the boundary with Greater Manchester. The station was opened by Metro (West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive) on 10 September 1990.

ervices

There is an hourly service to Manchester Victoria southbound and to Leeds via Halifax northbound with extra trains during peak times in each direction.

Future plans from December 2008

Northern Rail have proposed changes to the Caldervale line services from December 2008. Three trains per hour will run between Leeds and Manchester Victoria - one will be the current stopping service, one will go via Dewsbury and Brighouse, and include stops at Moston, Mills Hill and Castleton, and one will be a limited stop service - between Bradford and Manchester the service will only call at Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and Rochdale. Should these changes go through it will leave Walsden passengers with a poorer service, especially for those commuters who travel back from Mas opposed to the half hourly service currently operated (July 2008).
