Ichkeria (Chechnya)

Ichkeria is a Turkic name for a region in the mountainous central part of Chechnya. Ichkeria means "internal place" ("içki yer")Fact|date=September 2008. According to the legend, all "pure" Chechen teips originated thereFact|date=September 2008.

When Chechen separatists proclaimed the independence of the Chechen Republic, they used the name Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (ChRI) to refer to independent Chechnya.
