Gunja

Gunja is a village and municipality in the hinterland of the left banks of the Sava in the region of Spačva, Croatia, 31.42 km southeast of Županja; elevation 84 m. In the 2001 census, the population was 5,003, with 64.3% declaring themselves Croats and 13.77% Bosniaks. Chief occupations include farming, forestry, wood processing and the building trade (brickyards). It is a small village directly across the river from the city of Brčko in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the war in Bosnia, many Muslim and Croat citizens of Brčko lived as refugees in Gunja. Most families in Gunja had fallout shelters to protect themselves and their neighbours from Serbian plane attacks.
