Data I/O Corporation [http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=daio NASDAQ:DAIO] (commonly known as "Data I/O") is a manufacturer of programming and automated device handling systems for programmable integrated circuits. History

Data I/O was incorporated in 1969 [ [http://finance.yahoo.com/q/pr?s=DAIO DAIO: Profile for DATA IO CP - Yahoo! Finance ] ] and quickly rose to worldwide renown as the first commercial device programmer company. Before the IBM PC was introduced, the company developed equipment that allowed electronic designers to program the very first non-volatile semiconductor devices with data stored on punch cards. Over the next three decades the company rode the non-volatile technology wave forward as Bi-Polar, EPROM, EEPROM, NOR FLASH, Antifuse, FRAM and, most recently, NAND FLASH devices were introduced by a myriad of semiconductor vendors.

While not manufacturing any semiconductors itself, Data I/O's core business is the design and manufacture of equipment that transfers data into various non-volatile semiconductor devices. In modern times, these devices commonly fall into three categories: Flash Memory, Microcontroller devices, and Programmable Logic Devices.

Some models of Data I/O programmers are intended for use by engineering design staff during product design and test phases, while other models are designed for volume manufacturing and include sophisticated, fully automated, robotic handlers - which program devices without human assistance or intervention.

Current Products

Introduced in 2000, Data I/O FlashCORE technology is optimized for programming of NAND and NOR based Flash memory devices and Flash-based microcontrollers and is sold in FlashPAK, PS-System and ProLINE-RoadRunner programmer models spanning engineering use to high-volume offline and inline "just-in-time" manufacturing. Data I/O provides Tasklink for Windows software to set up FlashCORE programmers and specify data sources.

Introduced in 2004, Data I/O ImageWriter programmer models use In-System Programming methodologies to perform high speed and flexible programming of devices already mounted on a PCB. Data I/O provides IW Tools software for configuring ImageWriter programmers and modeling programming flow.

Data I/O sells its products and services to a variety of industrial segments including wireless handset manufacturers, telecommunication, industrial automation, consumer electronics, computer, medical, automotive, military, aerospace, electronic contract manufacturing, programming centers, and semiconductors industries worldwide.
